Hi Pete;
I did upgrade from my old 35 amp generator to a 70 amp alternator using a kit from Plane Power.
I thought the kit was well made, the installation was pretty easy and the thing has worked fine since I installed it.
The Plane Power kit for your engine is ER 14-50. Go to the Plane Power website ( www.plane-power.com ) and take a look at the important note related to the installation of this unit.
I found a price of $676 at www.aircraftspruce.com .
Happy Flying

Generator to alternator conversion was created by PETER JARVIS
I'm looking for some guidance on this. I have a late 1950's model 172 with a generator. I'm told that in the early 60's Cessna started installing alternators. My question is, is there anyone out there who knows of any way that I can ( providing I can get my hands on all the parts ) legally, convert mine to the Cessna alternator system? Any help would really be appropriated. Regards, Pete.
