Hi John,
I suspect your problem is related to a partially clogged oil line. And since I always troubleshoot trying a less expensive remedy first, I suggest you disconnect the oil line at the back of the gauge and blow compressed air through it toward the engine.

You don't need to disconnect the oil line at the engine.

Then connect it back up and try it again.

I used to clear up the oil lines in DC-3s by pumping red hydraulic fluid through from the gauge end. You can also do that but it's a little messier.

The small amount of hyd fluid you blow back into the engine won't cause any problems.
