Hello Steve,
You need to keep in mind that this is the reported numbers. I find very few folks actually report things. I had forwarded Kent some photos of cracks. These are all cracked upon "non-scheduled" hey lets just look inspection. The big thing is that the crack is being looked at Visually. FP inspection is suggested. On one aircraft we looked at for R&D reasons visual passed, FP showed indication.

Time for a change of heading on this post thread.
AD 2020-18-01 became effective on November 1,. 2020.

I recently contacted Bobbie Kroetch at the FAA. She is author of the AD.
The following is information about the bulkhead cracking that prompted the AD.

Model Reporting Cracks Reported Percentage Min TIS (hours) Max TIS (hours)
172 277 1 0.4% 10691 10691
182 518 18 3.5% 3220 17124
206 90 5 5.6% 3560 10978
207 16 3 18.8% 7180 24236
210 24 0 0.0% 0 0
205 13 0 0.0% 0 0

The numbers are squeezed but it shows that 518 reports were received for the 182, 18 cracks were reported (3.5% of the number reporting); the minimum hours of airplanes reporting was 3220, and the maximum hours on the airplanes reporting is17, 124.

Warren,
We have spent a good pile of $$ studying why this is happening as part of developing a solution to fix it. This is something that is not hours based but more so caused by the aircraft twisting on the ground. The first thoughts was to copy the Cessna kit like other have done via identicality PMA. However, it was demonstrated via engineering that there may not be sufficient margin in the fix. The exact details are hopefully able to be released soon.

I have a cutaway fuselage here in the shop that hopefully we will have down at Oshkosh. Unfortunately we are not able to attend ourselves so it will likely be at one of our distributors.

As far as the cracking goes, there is a notch that just cracks. Determining it it cracks is going to be the hard part as visually it may not be large enough to see.

1996 and newer aircraft have a totally different bulkhead structure.

Has anyone done or is planning to do a video on this inspection?
