You've had a rough patch, for sure and I hope that 2016 is a year of happy flying. It sounds like stability in your powerplant is coming back. Expensive and time consuming, I know the feeling.

Happy New Year,

It has been an interesting six months. Not only was it running ruff with carb heat, we found that we had lost about 5-7kt of cruse speed. And fuel flow was high. We had many conversations with Continental that were not very constructive. We had the airbox rebuilt and while that was happening we sent the carburetor back to Marvel Schebler. They determined the idle tube and full throttle jet were both set rich. Both the tube and jet were replaced and the carburetor reinstalled. Cruse speed, fuel flow and carb heat performance are now as one would expect.

As an aside, we are now having a third starter installed since the engine. Although the first one, that came with the engine, was replaced with the relay. So the relay may have been the problem.

The engine is brand new from Continental. We have found it smooths out nicly with leaning. Our mechanic has made about every possible adjustment and we are now looking to Continental for warranty replacement of the carburetor. I'll post a follow up.

Mr. Johnson,

Have you checked with either the A&P mechanic that did the install or with the company that did the overhaul? Sounds like an adjustment is needed for mixture...

Let us know what the solution turns out to be. We're all interested.

Best,

We recently (12 hours) had a new engine installed, 1976 182P. We are now having an issue where the engine runs ruff when carb heat is applied. Anyone ever experience anyhting like this?

Thanks.
