Just wanted to share a few good destinations for members in the Mid-Atlantic states. We'll start with the obvious:

1. Wright Brothers Monument in Kitty Hawk. Fly in to KFFA and walk around the wonderful site which includes a museum and replica of the Wright Flyer. Easy access to local restaurants. The field is small and the winds can be challenging, and I do not believe they allow overnight parking. No services other than a pilot's lounge. So, fly the 6.1nm down to...

2. Manteo/Dare County KMQI. Full service FBO and easy access to hotels and restaurants. Local taxi services and car rentals can be arranged. To complete your tour of the outer banks, fly along the islands to...

3. Ocracoke Island W95. Another small field with with variable winds, but very accessible. Walk to the beach or walk into Ocracoke Village, each is less than a half mile from the airport. Lots of dining choices, including Howard's Pub, which actually has a shuttle service that will pick you up at W95 and take you to their restaurant. This is a great fly-in because it would normally be a 4+ hour drive plus a ferry ride from the mainland. We fly down from Raleigh in our 182 and it takes us about an hour with favorable winds. No services other than a pilot's lounge. Please note, no arrivals or departures after dark, limited overnight parking. When you depart, if you're heading west, head for...

4. Carthage (Gilliam - Mc Connell Airfield) 5NC3. Now this one will test your short field landing ability but it's worth the effort for some of the best NC BBQ. No services at all but really, really good food. (If it's BBQ you seek but don't want to try the short field, Lexington KEXX is only 50nm NW. Crew car available most days and recommendations for BBQ available all the time).

So how about sharing some of your favorite fly-in destinations.
