What a great weekend to fly! Clear and a million over most of NC for the Independence Day holiday, what a blessing!

For those of you who like do do a little more than the hundred dollar hamburger, please consider a trip to historic New Bern, NC. We lived nearby and worked there for a few years and now it has become one of our favorite fly-in destinations. KEWN is a towered airport with great controllers, and Cherry Point approach has always been outstanding. Two nice long paved runways and a first class FBO run by Tidewater Air. They have all the amenities, new building, courtesy cars, they even offer drop-off AND pick up service to downtown. Taxi services and rental cars are also available nearby.

For a day trip, start downtown and pick any of the dozen or so restaurants within walking distance, everything from casual to fine dining. Enjoy walking the riverfront as New Bern is at the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers. Stop and see Ed at Trent River Coffee Company, we're proud to call him a friend. Walk a few blocks down Pollock street and visit Tryon Palace, a replica of the original Governor's Mansion from the era when New Bern was the colonial capitol.

Lots of lodging choices downtown too, everything from B&Bs to Hilton properties. If you're staying overnight consider taking a ghost tour. There is a very active historical society that can guide you to other interesting sites. Cedar Grove Cemetery has gained popularity because it features prominently in a television series that has aired of late.

C'mon folks, where did you fly recently?
