December 2014-

At EAA AirVenture this year Superior Air Parts introduced its Vantage engine with STC approval for Cessna 172R and 172S models.
We took some time to visit with Scott Hayes, Vice President, Sales and Marketing about the new engine and were duly impressed with what Superior has wrought.
"A Cessna 172 owner can buy our engine, keep the existing accessories if desired, bolt up the Vantage engine and be ready to go," said Hayes, "and all for about the cost of a factory rebuild."
This is a brand-new 180 hp engine—all new parts—and sells for $25,000 including the STC. It carries a 24-month "or until TBO" warranty.
The engine is approved for 100LL or auto gas* (no ethanol) and that's great news for members looking to save money on fuel.
"We think this is a great option for Cessna owners," said Hayes.
And options with potential cost savings are always welcomed, we say.

*Superior Vantage Engines are certified for 100LL Avgas per ASTM D910, 91/98 (lead optional) and motor gasoline with a minimum antiknock index (R=M/2 method) of 91 per ASTM D4814 (European EN228). Use of auto fuel blended with alcohol (ethanol) is forbidden.
